It is an extraordinary event that Alfa Romeo certainly couldn't miss out on and that confirms its drawing closer to the world of young people both by offering attractive, high-performance and safe cars and by sharing with them the same values and forms of expression in the music, web and new digital technology fields, in addition to supporting the most interesting music and sports events on the national and international scene.
The brand has always been synonymous with essential style capable of conveying strong emotions, technical research that is always at the cutting edge, plus superlative road holding and driving satisfaction, combined with the maximum efficiency of the vehicle and maximum onboard safety. The same values lie behind the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCT and the other two most significant new features of the 2011 edition of the Motor Show - the MiTo TwinAir Turbo and the Giulietta 120 HP 1.4 LPG Turbo - able to combine respect for the environment with driving pleasure.
Therefore the spotlights are trained on the Giulietta Exclusive 170 HP 2.0 JTDM with Alfa TCT gearbox, the innovative twin dry clutch automatic transmission that ensures driving comfort and a sporty feeling superior to the automatic transmissions with torque converter, even if with lower running costs and fuel consumption.
Available with the 170 HP 1.4 TB MultiAir petrol and 170 HP 2.0 JTDM diesel engines, the Giulietta TCT is the car with the best efficiency/performance ratio in its category. This transmission can operate in totally automatic or sequential mode by manually managing the "up and down" positions of the gear lever using the "shift paddles" on the steering wheel. In addition, the driver can customise his car's character using the Alfa DNA driving selector to enhance its features of comfort, performance, safety and efficiency.
In particular, the Giulietta MultiAir with Alfa TCT is the most eco-friendly petrol compact in its category. In fact, extremely low fuel consumption and emissions (5.2 l/100 km in the combined cycle and 121 g/km emissions of CO2) and at the same time with excellent performance worthy of an Alfa Romeo are recorded: 218 km/h top speed and 7.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h.
Even when fitted with the 170 HP 2.0 JTDM-2 diesel engine, the values are at the top of its category. In fact, compared to the same manual gearbox version, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h changes from 8.0 seconds to 7.9 seconds, fuel consumption (combined cycle) drops from 4.7 l/100 km to 4.5 l/100 km, while CO2 emissions reach the record level for an engine of this category equal to 119 g/km (124 g/km with the manual gearbox). Without forgetting the low running costs together with low fuel consumption make it the ideal choice also for company fleets.
The Giulietta Euro 5-compliant 120 HP 1.4 Turbo dual-fuel (LPG and petrol) will stand next to the Giulietta TCT on display at the Bologna show. It is a thrilling mix of power and technology in line with brand values because it is able to combine top-level performance with respect for the environment and low running costs. Available in three different trim levels (Giulietta, Progression and Distinctive) for all European markets, the new version boasts performance at the top of its category. Specifically, with maximum power of 120 HP (88 kW) at 5000 rpm and with a maximum torque of 206 Nm (21 kgm) at 1750 rpm, the Giulietta LPG reaches a top speed of 195 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.
One jewel on display at the Bologna show is the Giulietta flagship: the 235 HP 1750 TBi engine combined with the exclusive Quadrifoglio Verde trim level. This engine affords a specific torque of 195 Nm/litre, which is the highest of all petrol engines in this category and - an excellent feature - the maximum torque of 340 Nm is delivered at just 1,900 rpm. In detail, the 1750 Turbo petrol engine boasts advanced technological solutions including direct fuel injection, dual continuous variable valve timing, a turbocharger and a revolutionary scavenging control system that gets rid of any "turbo lag".
So the three Giulietta models displayed at the Bologna Motor Show are the demonstration of the performance of a car that is achieving excellent sales figures across the continent, also confirmed by its preservation of value over time, at the top of its category. At the cutting edge in terms of technology, the Giulietta is a functional car that affords roomy interiors and superior comfort besides a safety record (Euro NCAP 2010 5-star rating, with the highest score ever obtained by a compact saloon) and attentive to running costs, as demonstrated by the diesel engine servicing interventions to be carried out only every 35,000 km.
The Alfa Romeo MiTo finds the ideal showcase here for presenting the powerful 170 HP 1.4 MultiAir Turbo "Quadrifoglio Verde" and the new 85 HP TwinAir Turbo version that will debut in the forthcoming months, in perfect harmony with the dynamic spirit of the Motor Show, always representing a niche for young people and music. The innovative two-cylinder TwinAir engine was voted "International Engine of the Year 2011" and guarantees promptness of response and agility owing not only to an output of 85 HP at 5500 rpm, but above all to a remarkable torque of 145 Nm constant between 2000 and 3500 rpm. All with a significant reduction in fuel consumption and emissions (only 98 g/km of CO2).
Space will also be given to the exclusive MiTo "Quadrifoglio Verde. It has been revamped with original and distinctive styling features and other contents of enormous interest in the field of comfort. The MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde, equipped with the powerful 170 HP 1.4 MultiAir Turbo (awarded Best New Engine of the Year 2010), offers the innovative "Alfa Active Suspension", a system that actively and continuously controls the electronic shock absorbers developed by teaming the designers of Alfa Romeo with the latest engineering techniques from Magneti Marelli.
A blend of experience gained on the racetrack, the system allows the MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde to excel even further in terms of agility and handling, giving it exceptional driveability and top level safety. Without considering that the "Alfa Active Suspension" system perfectly interfaces with the three different dynamic control settings of the "Alfa DNA" device ("Dynamic", "Natural" and "All Weather"), managing all the applications on the car: from the ESP, steering and Q2 electronic differential to engine response and, if present, the Alfa TCT.
In addition, the public can admire a 170 HP 1.4 MultiAir Turbo engine combined with the TCT transmission kept in a glass case. It represents the sophisticated Alfa Romeo engines that owing to the set-up developed to optimise torque efficiency, maximise performance and minimise fuel consumption, therefore "performance never to the detriment of fuel consumption, and fuel consumption never to the detriment of performance".
Completing the display inside the stand is an interactive workstation that lets the public discover the Alfa Romeo 4C Concept with an innovative approach. In detail, the user sits in front of a 100" monitor, is recognised by a special software program and from that point his hands will be able to give remote commands to turn the supercar through 360° without touching the screen. It is a fascinating experience that Alfa Romeo achieved in collaboration with the agency Seac02, specialised in the augmented reality technology field, to bring a unique excitement to the visitors.
Finally, visitors will be introduced to the products of FGA Capital, a finance company specialising in the automotive segment, through illustrative materials and certain dedicated publications handed out at the stand. The finance company operates in Italy (with the Sava and Leasys-Savarent brands) and across Europe with a sole mission: supporting the sales of all Fiat Group Automobiles brand vehicles by offering innovative financial products with high added value services dedicated to the dealership network, private customers and companies.
